NIST vs Gulf Saraburi FC

On Monday 3 June, 2013, NIST students, and staff, played in a friendly football match against a Thai professional team, Gulf Saraburi FC who has returned to NIST for the second time after they first played against each other two years ago. The match was held on NIST’s FIFA qualified (one star) all-weather playing field. This event was held to both celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the school, and to also say farewell to NIST’s Headmaster, Mr. Simon Leslie, Deputy Head/ Director of Academic Studies, Mr. Adrian Watts, and a NIST teacher and football coach, Mr. Will Kirkwood.

The NIST team starred teachers, support staff, students and an alumnus, this was truly a community effort. Students and staff came out to cheer on their team in their valiant effort against the professionals. NIST's Headmaster, Simon Leslie, held his post as a goalie, blocking a number of goals much to the delight of the spectators. Will and Adrian held strong positions playing defense and striker, it was certainly an exciting match. Gulf Saraburi FC scored the first goal, riling everyone up in anticipation for a NIST shot. This moment was met when teacher Guillermo made NIST’s first goal!

Ultimately the match was lots of fun and full of spirit with Gulf Saraburi FC, winning the match 4-1. They were great sportsmen and very talented players. This match was a great way to cap off the end of a very successful 20th year!
