The Cheer Ambassadors

On Thursday 6th September 2012 NIST hosted a film screening, live performance and meet the cast of the documentary ‘The Cheer Ambassadors’. NIST Visual Arts Coordinator, Val McCubbin organised this event and said “I saw this documentary at the FCCT at the start of the summer holiday and felt it was a must see. On one level this is a story about Cheerleading in Thailand which I didn’t even know existed and on another level this is a culturally rich story about values in Thailand, motivation, passion, drive and determination of the athletes in this film. Also how the athletes faced challenges and overcame them was incredibly inspiring. I felt it was a rewarding story about how with passion and drive you can reach for the stars and achieve your dreams and I wanted to share it with NIST students and the NIST community.”

This film chronicles the lives of Thai cheerleaders in their quest to attain the seemingly impossible, a chance to compete in the World Cheerleading Championships. This inspiring story follows the coach and his team in their remarkable journey, from watching late night Youtube videos to practicing on concrete floors; the story exemplifies the ideals of perseverance and determination.

The film’s director Luke Cassady-Dorion also visited NIST and students were given the opportunity to ask questions from the director and cast. A few students even got up and tried some cheers.

“It was an inspiring story about how following your dreams can make them come true.” Ash Louis, Student Yr 10
